What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a very popular cosmetic surgery used to adjust the size and shape of the nose. In some cases, rhinoplasty is also performed to improve a patient’s breathing and nasal function.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

At HK Plastic Surgery, the cost of rhinoplasty ranges from $8500-$15,000. Please note: Each plan is customized to individual situations and includes facility fees, IV sedation, medication, and post-operative appointments.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that’s typically performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Holcomb or Dr. Salzman will usually start by making an incision across the base of the nose. Next, they carefully adjusts the skin, bones, and/or cartilage to create a new shape for the nose. They then uses tiny stitches to close the incision and finish the procedure. On average, rhinoplasty takes between one and three hours to complete.

Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Anyone who’s interested in adjusting the way their nose looks may be a candidate for rhinoplasty. To be an ideal candidate for the surgery, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Over the age of 15
  • In good physical health
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Have the desire to adjust the appearance of your nose

.

How Long Is the Recovery Time After Rhinoplasty?

You should be able to head home within a few hours of your surgery. You’ll need to wear a nasal splint for the first week, and frequent rest will be important during this time. After 10 to 14 days, you should be able to return to your regular routine, but you should avoid strenuous physical activity for at least four to six weeks.

What To Do Before the Surgery?

Before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery, you’ll have a consultation with Dr. Holcomb or Dr. Salzman. You should tell them your hopes for the procedure during the meeting and air any concerns. You must also tell the doctors about your medical history, any allergies you suffer from, and all of the medications you’re currently taking.

Before the surgery, you should also arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home on the day of the procedure. Ideally, you should also arrange for someone to spend the first night with you.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

Is Rhinoplasty Painful?

Rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia, so you will be sleeping peacefully during the surgical process and will feel no pain. After surgery, it is common to experience soreness and tenderness in the nose as you heal. Our team will provide you with prescriptions for pain medications that can help you manage discomfort. Most patients find they can switch to over-the-counter painkillers within the first week of their recovery.

Is Rhinoplasty Covered by Insurance?

If rhinoplasty is performed solely for cosmetic reasons, it is not usually covered by insurance. However, if any portion of your surgery is deemed 'medically necessary', your insurance company may cover a portion or all of your costs. It is always best to check with your individual insurance carrier for details.

Can Rhinoplasty Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Yes. Rhinoplasty is frequently combined with chin augmentation to create a more balanced and attractive profile. The surgery can also be paired with other aesthetic solutions of your choosing. Simply speak with us about your goals during your private consultation.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Changes with rhinoplasty are considered lasting and sustainable. Your new nose will remain with you for the rest of your life, and you will slowly begin to feel as though you were born with it.

Is There a Non-Surgical Alternative to Rhinoplasty?

For certain patients, liquid rhinoplasty using dermal fillers can be performed to address imperfections like asymmetry, bumps, or depressions in the nose. However, non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot significantly alter the size of the nose or correct any structural concerns. During your private consultation, our team can help you select the best approach for meeting your unique cosmetic goals.

Will Rhinoplasty Affect My Voice?

Undergoing rhinoplasty will not affect vocal function in any way or make it harder to sing or speak. However, it can lead to very subtle changes in vocal tone or quality. However, these changes are typically unnoticeable to other people.

What If I Need Revisions?

After a primary rhinoplasty, residual swelling can obscure the final shape of the nose. While swelling gradually declines with time, it can last up to one year, subtly altering the shape of the nose. For this reason, it is critical that you not judge your final results too early. After one year, if you are still unhappy with your nose, you can speak with your provider about undergoing a revision procedure.
