Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure in which excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed. This results in smaller, lighter, and firmer breasts that are more proportionate to the rest of the body. Breast reduction can also reduce the size of the areola.
Large, pendulous breasts may cause a woman to experience various medical problems such as back, shoulder, and/or neck pain, skin irritation, problems with breathing, and problems with posture as a result of the excessive weight of the breasts. In addition, many women feel self-conscious and embarrassed if they have uncommonly large breasts. Breast reduction can help reduce the weight of the breasts, allowing a woman to feel more confident and enabling her to play sports or exercise more comfortably.
A breast reduction may be performed for physical relief, cosmetic improvement, or both.
