The face may lose volume through aging, illness or weight loss, resulting in a hollow or gaunt appearance. We naturally lose volume around the temples, cheekbones, eyes, and lips as we age and collagen production slows. Juvederm Voluma is a dermal filler approved to restore facial volume in the midface thereby lifting the cheek area to restore a more youthful appearance.
Voluma is one of the newest forms of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. It is FDA-approved to restore volume to the midface, and it is frequently used to treat lost volume in the cheeks and areas near the mouth.
It may also improve the definition of the jawline. Juvederm Voluma injections can also improve the proportion and balance of the face, and be used in combination with other treatments.
There are many dermal fillers and treatments available to rejuvenate the face. Advantages of Voluma:
After a consultation to determine Juvederm Voluma may likely achieve the desired results, Juvederm Voluma XC will be injected in small amounts to the treatment areas. This is an in-office procedure and typically requires just topical anesthesia, as the Voluma solution contains lidocaine, a local numbing agent. Voluma will be injected into the deep layers of the face along the cheek ridge to provide a lifting effect. Voluma may be also used to correct hollowing in other adjacent areas of the face and deep folds near the mouth.
Results of Voluma injections are immediately apparent, although some patients experience mild swelling that may last for several days. Other side effects may occur but are typically mild – these may include tenderness and bruising. Rare outcomes include localized fullness. If irregularities occur, Voluma may be reversed using a natural enzyme. Patients may return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment.
Most patients find Voluma treatments are less painful than other fillers, as Voluma is injected deeper in the skin where fewer nerves are present. This also reduces the likelihood of bruising.
Results may be evident for up to 18 months or longer, depending on the treatment area and the patient.
Voluma XC is a smooth gel filler that restores volume to the face. The best candidates are seeking volume in the cheeks and midface. Ideal patients are those with age-related facial volume loss that has created a sunken appearance or asymmetry, as well as patients with fairly good skin elasticity and minimal if any sagging of the skin.
